How to get an Edit done

Your document

Your document is written in English, but you need final checks. This is proofreading. If there are references then these need to be checked too, for accurate inclusion and that the reference is the one you meant to use. If there is more work to do on the text then a Copy Edit is required. If there is work to do on content then an Academic Edit is offered. Finally, if you want me to write a paper for you then WRITING is available.

Your document(s) are generally in a Word file, and we will test that I can read it. Alternatively it is a text file, or submitted in Pages or LibreOffice. We can work in whichever of those alternatives you prefer. Tracking is supplied as available in the program of your choice.

For diagrams, the submitted figure needs to be in Excel or Adobe, and work will be charged by the hour.

The process

First, you submit all or part of your document on-line via Dropbox, with a second document to tell me what your finished copy-edited work will look like.
Second, I respond with a quote and recommendations.
Third, if you wish to proceed then all documents are submitted via Dropbox. A downpayment of 50-100% is required.
Fourth, copy editing is performed by me.
Fifth, you receive the work back via the same Dropbox folder that you submitted by. You then have 14 days to check that you are happy with the work and if necessary, return it for further editing.

Copy edit and proofreading types

These are the copy editing services that I provide:

PROOFREADING

Check the text for spelling (UK or USA)
Check for clarity of meaning and amend if required
Eliminating (or pointing out) repetition that is unnecessary
Cross checking page number references
Check references are correctly inserted according to the scheme you specify
Adding comments to raise awareness of anomalies, for authors
Tracking changes (in Word, Pages)

COPY EDITING

All of the above plus
Applying styles if required (Word)
Changing text so that it reads correctly, consistently and is written in excellent English (UK or USA)
Ensuring that salient points are recognised and brought forth

ACADEMIC

All of the above plus
Adding significant content to the work. This is only offered if I have the appropriate resources and expertise to add academically to the work.
Figures can be edited as required, if supplied in an appropriate digital format (Excel, Adobe or by arrangement)

WRITING

Along with services above, I can write the whole paper, or move it from a basic draft to a near finished product.

CHARGES

Academic and Writing will be charged by the hour (£20 / hour)

Proofreading and copyediting will be charged by the length of paper and its state (whether references are included)
